To Find a Bully

To find a bully rather than create one, just look at the previous history and references of candidates and look for successful trends and top performance awards. A good way to determine if the candidate may have tendencies toward bullying would be to ask potential candidates to describe how and why they achieved these accolades. The descriptors that they use may fit the I-type Instigator core traits of negative talkers developed by Dr. Dennis O’Grady (2014), such as Winning Is Everything or arrogantly omitting any collaborative work.  There are many other tendencies common to bullies and understanding the character traits, behaviors, and communication styles of workplace bullies would be a great addition to organizational screening processes as human resource specialists look for individuals who are the best fit for the organization.
