Bullying in all of its definitions and labels is a form of deliberate harm. Depending on the age and emotional intelligence of the bully, the effects of the damage delivered may not be fully understood, and yet sometimes when bullying is coupled with psychopathy, the injury is fully understood. Psychopathy is a disorder that includes many difficult personality traits and maladaptive patterns of behavior some of which may include a lack of remorse, empathy, and a theory of mind. Treatment for psychopathy involves understanding the origins or the cause of the behavior; however, these efforts only provide clues to the nature of how behaviors to deliberately harm may emerge, which are highly specific to each case. Therefore, treatment for psychopathy must be designed for the patient and also include the history and mental and physical condition of the person. For example, neuroscience has provided suggestions that genes have a role in maladaptive behaviors as does brain abnormalities of the brain regions associated with behavioral abnormalities which may fuel the behaviors to harm deliberately.
The book An Organizational Approach to Workplace Bullying examines organizational culture and wellness in the presence of bully triads. The book includes ideas for assessment and performance improvement concerning organizational culture. The book addresses possible approaches to improve workplace culture and organizational wellness and to create bully-free environments.
